The Vestal

Amulius has a problem: Numitor has a daughter, Rhea Silvia. If she ever has children, they could one day claim their grandfather's throne.

So the tyrant finds a way that spills none of his niece's blood: he makes her a Vestal. The Vestals, priestesses of Vesta, guard the city's sacred fire — bound to thirty years of chastity. A Vestal has no children. Ever.

Why does Amulius make Rhea a Vestal?
To extinguish Numitor's line without killing his nieceTo honour her: it is a great privilegeBecause the goddess Vesta demanded it in a dream
